✈︎ How Do You Pack for a Year of Travel with Just a Carry-On?
Hint: It involves washing machines and questionable compromises
Good morning ☀️ from Booked It On Points: A curated collection of travel tips and personal stories by me, Allie→ because you’re meant to experience meaningful travel no matter life’s constraints 👊🏽
Let’s dive in.
✈︎ Travel Story
How do you pack for a year of travel, surprisingly light!
As you may know, we’re a family of 4—2 adults, 2 kids—fueled by hopes, dreams, and 2 iPads that better not die mid-flight. The mission? Travel the world, give our kids a global education, and (fingers crossed) stay a close-knit crew along the way.
All wonderful in theory… but in practice? How the **** are we supposed to pack when we don’t even know where we’re headed next?
Step 1: Find the right bag.
Geo just compared 5 carry-ons in his latest video. You’ll get solid tips and some laughs, because… well, Geo + luggage = entertainment.
Step 2: Family considerations.
Small accommodations = tiny storage (think Tetris, but less fun).
Lounge access—we love it. But if we’re stuck in line checking bags, we’re missing out on the free snacks and sparkling water that makes us feel fancy.
We travel a lot—every 3 months, plus weekend trips in between—so bags have to be simple enough to grab and go.
Taking all this into account, the clear answer is carry-on only. And honestly, I want to be a carry-on-only person. Just because we’re traveling for a year doesn’t mean we need a year’s worth of clothes.
But here’s the truth: Geo is perfectly content with his 5 identical black Hanes tees. Wow. Can’t relate. And that makes it feel impossible for me.
So yeah, this is harder than it looks. And because I clearly need help, here’s a poll:
Will we be carry on only? Or need to check a bag? |
Stay tuned for the next newsletter drop where I’ll reveal our final bag lineup. Shew. The pressure is real.

Needless to say, it’s not ‘back to school’ in the traditional sense for us this year. In fact, it’s exhilarating and untraditional, but we’re certain we’re living our life to the fullest!
As always, hanks for being here!
