✈︎ Travel Story

How We Almost Missed Our Flight—Because of ME

I like to think of myself as a well-seasoned traveler. I’ve flown solo, wrangled two small kids through international terminals, and generally know my way around an itinerary. I’m no rookie… or so I thought.

A couple weeks ago, flying home from Uruguay, I made a classic travel blunder. Just hours before the first of three flights, I realized I’d booked flight #2 out of a different airport than where flight #1 was landing. Not a different terminal. A different airport and would therefore be navigating us out of the airport, onto the streets of an entire new-to-us country.

We were landing in Argentina at 10pm. Our next flight? Midnight. We had two hours to get through customs, collect our bags, find a car, and cross an unfamiliar city to make it to the right airport.

Spoiler: we made it. Barely. There was sweating. There was sprinting and a bit of car sickness. There was a driver who definitely ignored every speed limit and possibly a few laws of physics. But we made it.

And in true form, we made airport lounge visits- during the other legs of the travel day which immediately erased the memory of my dreaded mistake!

Moral of the story? Travel anyways, even when you make mistakes and plans get stressful! Travel always keeps you humble—even when you think you’ve got it all dialed in. And honestly, that’s half the fun. (The other half is checking airport codes. Twice.)
